Welcome to this week’s edition of New Vision Notes! If you’re reading for the first time, we’re glad you’ve subscribed. If you’ve been a subscriber for a while, we’re grateful to continue reaching you each week.
Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Observed internationally on March 21st of each year, it is the anniversary of the day the police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid “pass laws” in 1960. Let’s commit to work together to build a world of dignity, justice and equal opportunity for every community, everywhere.
This coming Sunday we enter Holy Week by celebrating Palm/Passion Sunday. We are grateful for the leadership of George, Karen and others from our New Vision community.
- When will we have communion on Sunday again? The next time we will celebrate communion together will be on Easter Sunday, March 31st. Because that date is so close to the beginning of April, the next service with communion will be on Sunday May 5th.
- A solemn service of worship will be held (in-person only) to mark Maundy Thursday on the evening of March 28th at 6:30pm in the Lower Hall. The worship committee invites you to join in a commemoration of the Last Supper with a symbolic ‘meal’, readings, hymns and foot washing. We will also be extinguishing candles to represent Jesus’ passion during Holy Week.
- On Good Friday (March 29th), Join a prayerful, community walk reflecting on Jesus’ journey to the Cross and where Christ is being crucified today in the Stations of the Cross walk for Downtown Hamilton Ecumenical Social Justice. We will gather here at New Vision at 12:00 pm and the walk will take place from 12:30-2pm, ending with a Solidarity Soup at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on James Street South. You may RSVP for the walk online (until Sunday) by .
- The World Health Organization has declared that the COVID-19 pandemic has ended. We no longer ask people to mask to be part of our worship gathering; however, very much know that we remain mask friendly!
- Join us on Sunday mornings 10:30 am week to week either in person at 24 Main St. W. or on Zoom by clicking here. The link is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/782292511.
- Did you know that we’re also on Facebook? If you’re on Facebook, you’re invited to join our New Vision United Community Group , where we post updates and share with one another online.
Together, let’s celebrate the gifts and graces of all people!
