Welcome to this week’s edition of New Vision Notes! If you’re reading for the first time, we’re glad you’ve subscribed. If you’ve been a subscriber for a while, we’re grateful to continue reaching you each week.
The Worship Committee invites you to a solemn service marking Maundy Thursday, which will be held this evening (March 28th) at 6:30pm (in-person only). Worship will take place in the Lower Hall, using our regular Sunday morning entrance on the MacNab side of the building (between the two red pillars). This commemoration of the Last Supper will feature a symbolic ‘meal’, readings, hymns and foot washing. We will also be extinguishing candles to represent Jesus’ passion during Holy Week.
This coming Sunday we will celebrate Easter in a service (with communion) led by Rev. Diane, Rev. Miriam, and others from our New Vision Community.
- When will we have communion on Sunday again? The next time we will celebrate communion together will be this coming Sunday, March 31st (in celebration of Easter). Because this date is so close to the beginning of April, the next service with communion will be on Sunday May 5th.
- On Good Friday (Tomorrow, March 29th), Join a prayerful, community walk reflecting on Jesus’ journey to the Cross and where Christ is being crucified today in the Stations of the Cross walk for Downtown Hamilton Ecumenical Social Justice. We will gather here at New Vision at 12:00 pm using our Sunday morning entrance before the walk, which will take place from 12:30-2pm, ending with a Solidarity Soup at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on James Street South.
Would you like to grow your knowledge of scripture but feel overwhelmed? Reading the bible is not a small task! Why not try daily scripture readings from The Revised Common Lectionary? The Revised Common Lectionary is a three-year cycle of scripture readings used to by the vast majority of mainline Protestant churches in Canada and the United States. Daily readings expand the range of biblical reading in worship and personal devotion. This valuable resource can be accessed here: https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/daily.php?year=B#id79
- The World Health Organization has declared that the COVID-19 pandemic has ended. We no longer ask people to mask to be part of our worship gathering; however, very much know that we remain mask friendly!
