Notes

Back into the day-to-day ministry in a heat wave…

  1. Cater and I journeyed to Hot Springs, North Carolina, for the Wild Goose Festival of Faith, Justice and the Arts in the second week of July. This is a camping festival with speakers, workshops, lots of worship and music. This year’s theme was “Blessed are the Peacemakers” and spoke many times in a gospel way to the intercultural violence that we’ve seen devastating eWild Geese Wendell Berryxamples of in Ferguson Missouri, Charleston South Carolina and elsewhere. A sampler of phrases spoken by presenters that spoke to me: Necessary interruption. When we engage, God will intervene, God will find a way. Jesus never debated human pain in the third person. Beyond safe space: brave space. Jesus’ last words to his disciples before he was crucified: “Put down the sword.” It’s a sin for the church not to be engaged in economic development. There’s a danger in single stories. Equality flows in all directions.
  2. We bid farewell to Music Director Brian Turnbull this Sunday. The choir is participating as a group in the service in thanks and celebration. After the service we’ll sit down to a catered lunch. Plan to attend, and share with Brian your appreciation for his musical leadership over the last 7 years.
  3. Stay cool.

See you Sunday!

Rev. Ian
