Notes

News about some New Vision folks this week…

  1. Thanks to Liz McLean for sharing her short animated film “Wor(l)d” on Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed the film and gained much from the congregation’s conversation about “how it might connect to faith.” Thanks everyone! Here is the link to the Vimeo site on which you can see Liz’ film (for some of you, to see it again): https://vimeo.com/64564712.
  2. Sellam Kassa has raised the funds she needs to participate in a school building project in the Dominican Republic for Haitian refugees. Part of Sellam’s fundraising included two lovely dinners which many of us attended. Sellam has written a thank you note which is posted on a bulletin board in the New Vision worship space.
  3. Custodian Luke Fillion the diligent is walking to Toronto from Hamilton this weekend to raise funds for St. Peter’s Palliative Care Hospital in memory of his mom. He’ll be with us on Sunday morning after his long trek, so come to see how he fared and congratulate him.
  4.  This Sunday we are planning to present the Aubrey Jones Scholarships to two worthy recipients – Elizabeth Polzel and Arthur Sloan. While the academic year is now over, I am sure like anyone at all they will appreciate the financial assistance! How fast the time does fly.
  5. Toyo Eiwa Cherry Trees to blossom soon – interested in gathering to send a photo of us in the Cherry Tree garden to Toyo Eiwa in Tokyo? Toyo Eiwa was founded by Women’s Missionary Society missionary and Centenary member Martha Cartmell in the late 19th Century.  Alumnae recently donated the trees for the park (it is part of Centennial  Park in Dundas) commemorating all the Canadian women missionaries to the school over the generations. Let me know or Dan Peace of your interest in this photo op. We’ll do something pretty spontaneous in the next week or so. Kind of a flash tea party.
  6. Everyone at the service on Sunday was invited to put down “something new” they’d done in the past week or month and then pin it up on a bulletin board with everyone else.  Here is how it turned out (from a distance). Something New Apr 26 2015You’ll have to come on Sunday to make out what everyone wrote. And add something new from your week this week…

See you Sunday!

Rev. Ian
