Welcome to this week’s edition of New Vision Notes! If you’re reading for the first time, we’re glad you’ve subscribed. If you’ve been a subscriber for a while, we’re grateful to continue reaching you each week.
This coming Sunday’s service is the Fourth Sunday in Lent, and PIE Day! Our service will be led by Erin and others from our church community. We look forward to this special worship gathering; a reminder of the commitment we have have made to be Public, Intentional and Explicit in our welcome to 2SLGBTQIA+ folk of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Get your tastiest recipes ready! If you’re coming in person, you’re invited to bring a pie or tarts of any shape or kind to share after church. Sweet or savory, warm or cold, all celebrations are better with food!
Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour this Saturday night, as we ‘spring forward’ into Daylight Savings Time!
- When will we have communion on Sunday again? The next time we will celebrate communion together will be on Easter Sunday, March 31st. Because that date is so close to the beginning of April, the next service with communion will be on Sunday May 5th.
- A special Maundy Thursday service will be held (in-person only) on the evening of Thursday March 28th. More info will be coming soon!
- On Good Friday (March 29th), Join a prayerful, community walk reflecting on Jesus’ journey to the Cross and where Christ is being crucified today in the Stations of the Cross walk for Downtown Hamilton Ecumenical Social Justice. We will gather here at New Vision at 12:00 pm and the walk will take place from 12:30-2pm, ending with a Solidarity Soup at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on James Street South. You may RSVP for the walk online (until March 24th) by .
- A debate was held on March 1st in the House of Commons, regarding the human rights situation in Gaza. On March 18th, a vote on the NDP Motion (click here to download) will be taken. The United Church of Canada encourages us to take action between now and March 18th:
- Call, email and meet with your MP and urge them to vote in favour of the NDP’s Motion on Gaza on March 18th
- Share with your community of faith and your personal networks, asking others to urge their MP to vote in favour of this Motion
- Click on this link to The United Church of Canada website to learn more about how together we can continue to pray, advocate, and donate in Support of Justice and Peace in Palestine and Israel
This is an important opportunity for Canadians to tell their representatives they want Canada to shift its policy on the Middle East.
- Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage is a network of autonomous Christians groups with shared convictions who are engaging in a prayerful show of solidarity in cities around the world, where people during Lent will walk the length of the Gaza strip. On March 16th, a walk will be taking place in Kitchener, Ontario. For more information on how you can take part, or support this important initiative, please click here.
- The World Health Organization has declared that the COVID-19 pandemic has ended. We no longer ask people to mask to be part of our worship gathering; however, very much know that we remain mask friendly!
